UNIT OF WORK - THEME AND OBJECTIVES
The unit of work is named “OUR CLASSROOM.” The theme that was chosen is “Describing objects.” and the main topic is school objects. Second grade students will work on Unit 1 "What's this?” from the Class Book “Family and Friends 1”
Linguistic content:
"What is this?" (as a chunk), "It's...", school objects (pen, rubber, pencil, ruler book, bag, folder, door, window, bookcase), colours (red, yellow, blue, green, orange, pink, purple, white, brown, black, grey)
Global communicative objectives for the unit:
During the unit, the students will develop a degree of communicative competence in accordance with their level, the ability and knowledge necessary to be able to describe school objects using the approriate structures and the adequate vocabulary, which will be presented throughout the classes before the final task. Moreover, students will develop the ability to use the structure and vocabulary given not just to ask and answer about school objects, but also to apply them to other aspects of their everyday life. Students will use different websites to practice different skills.
LESSON PLAN #1
GENERAL INFORMATION
Age group: 7 years old.
Number of students: 18
Level of English: Beginners
Physical Location: Classroom and Computer lab
Time alloted: 40 minutes
WARMER
The eacher will start the lesson writing on the board the word "CLASSROOM" in a cloud. Then she will ask students to brainstorm whatever word comes to their mind. During the discussion, the teacher will write students' answers on the board for them to use the information in the following activity.
WEB
The teacher will show her bag and will start talking about the things she has in it so as to draw the students' attention. For example:
T:'Look! (showing her pencil case) It's a pencil' Have you got a pencil?
The teacher will create another cloud in the board and is going to write the objects she mentions. The teacher will go on like this with some school objects. She will encourage students to show their object too in order to raise their involvement.
Once the cloud is completed, students will be handed in a printable activity taken from ESLcollective (offline authoring tool) in order to make their own glossary. The teacher will walk around and provide help if necessary. But, if students have doubts as regards vocabulary, i.e they don't remember the meaning of one of the words written on the board, she will encourage them to use the WILD version of the KIDS WORDSMYTH DICTIONARY.
After completing the picture dictionary, students will be asked to do an online activity on liveworksheets in which they will have to listen to the audio a choose the correct picture.
WHAT'S NEXT
Students will have to draw and colour their school objects in different sheets of paper. After that, they will be asked to share them with their classmates using the chunks:
"What it is?" / "It's a ..."

GENERAL INFORMATION
Age group: 7 years old.

Level of English: Beginners
Physical Location: Classroom and Computer lab
Time alloted: 40 minutes
WARMER
Students will revise last class vocabulary with a crossword from CROSSWORD LAB. In order to show the teacher that they have finished, they will have to raise their hand. When the teacher comes closer to them, she is going to have some flashcards and is going to ask them: "What is it?" Students will have to answer according to the image. The goal is to have each students answer at least one question.

Students will go on revising the vocabulary presented with the following activities:
First, they will start with a choosing activity in Hot Potatoes (authoring tool). In order for the activity to be more appealing, the teacher will propose a competition. The first ten students that complete the choosing activity will win one point.
Then, students will have to play in pairs a memory game from Eslgamesplus. In this game, they will be exposed not only to the words we have been working with but also with new vocabulary items, like "pencil sharpener" and "paper". Even though these words have not been explicitly taught, students have heard them as part of the everyday classroom language.
WHAT'S NEXT
Students will be divided in 3 groups of 6 and will have to find the following school objects. The first team that collects them all is the winner.
Once they have collected all the items, students will have to show the school objects to the other teams using the chunk "Its's a ..."
