Compass, a new College Success @ Perkins program, is designed to help blind and visually impaired high schoolers develop the critical academic and blindness skills for building a foundation for a successful future.
We're now accepting applications for 2021-22.
Compass, a College Success @ Perkins program, is a nine-month virtual program that prepares blind and visually impaired students in grades 9 through 11 for college while working with three members of the learning triad: students, families, and TVIs.

Lesson Plan Goal:
Learners will be able to differentiate and identify sounds in the neighborhood.
Learners will be able to determine if a sound would be something they would hear near where they reside.
Learners will be able to understand the concepts presented in parts of the address system.
Are you curious to learn more about guide dogs but don't know where to start? This workshop will cover how to decide if a guide dog is right for you, what skills you need before applying to schools, common misconceptions about guide dogs, how to pick a guide dog school, what to expect during the application process, and how to best prepare for school once you are accepted. Qualified applicants are blind or visually impaired and seriously considering the guide dog lifestyle. Campers are responsible for their own daily living skills. Campers will be chaperoned around the clock by GDB staff, and all meals will be provided.
Camp GDB is FREE for qualified applicants; families are responsible for providing transportation to and from Camp. If traveling by plane, GDB will provide transportation to and from the airport.
At Camp GDB, participants will explore the companionship, independence, and responsibility of having a guide dog. Campers receive hands-on guide dog instruction with an emphasis on understanding the specific orientation and mobility skills required to be a successful guide dog handler, as well as the fitness and endurance necessary for guide dog travel.
