Open Opportunity is a new non-profit founded in 2023 by Jessica and David Black. Jessica was a 2022 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grantee in Malawi, and the two spent nine months living in the capital city of Lilongwe. Jessica taught English at a Malawian public high school, while David taught computer classes at an international school. While there, they observed differences in opportunities based on the financial circumstances of the country. This prompted them to start the non-profit upon returning to their home in North Carolina. Their projects focus on continuing initiatives they started while in Malawi, introducing new opportunities that would benefit the community, and providing access to opportunities for people in North Carolina.
