General Characteristics, Habitat and Food

• Reproduction is carried out sexually, wind pollinated (Augustyn et al., 2023)

• In order to grow, corn needs full sun, and fertile, well drained soil with a pH of 6.0 to 6.8.

• The fertilizer used to grow corn needs a small amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and some potassium

• Rich in vitamin C

• High in dietary Fiber 

• Corn can be grown in every state but is mostly grown in the Great Plains through Ohio. (Augustyn et al., 2023)

• The US is the number 1 provider of corn with China, Brazil, and Argentina following behind

Impact of Temperature and Water on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Maize

-Experiment 

• Authors: Khaeim H, Kende Z, Jolánkai M, Kovács GP, Gyuricza C, Tarnawa Á.

• Scientist wanted to determine what the impact of temperature and water had on seed germination and seedling growth had on corn. (Khaeim et al., 2022)

• Variety of Hungarian maze referred to as “Margitta” were used for this experiment 

• 10 maize seeds in each petri dish 

• *I will be specifically observing the effects of temperature on the growth of corn* (Khaeim et al., 2022)

Results

Conclusion

• Compared to the constant temperatures of 5, 10, 15, 25, 30, 35, and 40 °C, 20°C was the optimal temperature for corn growth (Khaeim et al., 2022)

• At 20°C ,it is also shown in the graphs that this temperature provided the fastest and largest growth rate
