In a nutshell, without this tool you will not be able to run the QuickBooks desktop in a multi-user mode.

The Database server manager built network data files and stores the company files in the host’s computer. If you want to use the different versions of the main QB desktop. You also need to install different versions of QB Database server manager.
And when you try to install different versions of the Database server manager you'll not be able to access the different versions of this tool instead you will see different processes of the respective versions.
Also, you have to install different versions of this tool in the sequence of oldest to the latest version. If you are going to use the multiple versions of the main QB application.
You have to make sure that the particular year’s database should be running in the background with the respective versioN, QuickBooks DBXX, ( xx shows the version number )

Installing Process of the Database server Manager -
Download the set of QuickBooks Database server manager from the intuit’s website.
After the completion of the download.Close all the programs running in the Computer.
Click on the downloaded file QuickBooksDatabaseServerManager.exeto start the installation.
You’ll see the ‘next’ button, click on that to proceed further.
After that, the term and condition page will appear on the screen, go through that and click on the “I Agree” button to proceed further.
You have to click the ‘Next’ button one more time.
After this, you need to opt for “Custom or Network options”
Now, You have to choose between the installation type-
Choose "I will be using QuickBooks on this computer and I will be storing"....and when you want to run the program.
When only QuickBooks data will be stored on this computer, choose "I will not be using QuickBooks on this computer.".
The next step would be clicking “Yes” allow “access”
Further you have to enter the “ License number” and “Product number”
You’ll be shown some instructions on the screen, follow that and finish the process.
After the installation is complete, You have to follow the required steps to repair the database manager.
