After the grand success of Open Academic Research Winter Camp in 2017 at Kerala, we are pleased to announce the 2018 edition at Pondicherry. As usual we aim to setup a camp close to nature for a week during winter holidays. The students will join us with an open question and he or she will try to solve the problem alone or in a group. Our role as OAR mentors would be to guide them along their way with an open mind. To get a feel for the questions and answers from last year’s edition, please see the report.
** The call for members is open throughout the year if you are interested please feel free drop us a line or register. We will get back to you asap.
We are pleased to announce that this year we would like to initiate an 'Open Academic Winter Camp' in India. We aim to setup a camp close to nature for 2-3 weeks during the winter holidays. The students will join us with an open question and he/she will solve the problem alone or in a group where our role will be to supervise them with open and broad minds. It is good to remember that nature does not segregate any field. For example, biology is hard to understand without physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
Call for volunteers 1: We seek for volunteers to supervise at least two projects related to their research field. In short , they will act as project leaders. The volunteers should have a PhD or pursuing PhD with a strong understanding of at least one subject. There is no constraint on subjects. We welcome artists, architects, athletes, engineers, historians, mathematicians, philosophers, scientists, sociologists, writers, and creative people of any other areas which we are missing out. The job of a project leader will be to help the students identify a research problem, regularly interact with them to discuss the problem in an organised manner. The progress of the project needs to be recorded in the form of manual or digital note book. This should be done together with the student.
Every project leader will be given an opportunity to give a seminar on their research work in front of all the students. The project leaders should not be biased or have narrow opinions. They should be open to scientific questions or arguments or criticisms and are even ready to learn something new from the high school students. During the organisation period from August to September, the project leaders are requested to meet over Skype for an hour on an agreed common time to discuss and keep track on the progress of organising the camp. The workshop will take place in remote locations of India where frequent hiking and sport activities will be organised. The project leaders are expected to participate in these events.
Call for volunteers 2: We are seeking for three project leaders who are at the moment living in India to work on our financial and administrative work, to handle and store the experimental equipment, to organise the venue, travel, and logistics to smoothly run the workshop, besides the requirement of the Call for volunteers 1.
We intend to give travel, camping facilities as accommodations, and food to the project leaders. If you think you have the above qualities please get back to us. The call for volunteers will be closed by 25th August 2017**. Please fill up the REGISTRATION form or write us an email.
