How to download & access FileMaker (version 18) - updated 12/10/20
1. First open the Network drive (cifs://RC-FS.tch.harvard.edu/openpediatrics)
2. Navigate to the “FileMaker Installers” folder then go to the “FileMaker Pro 18” subfolder and choose the appropriate folder for either Mac or Windows installation.
3. For Mac version of FileMaker, next download both files in the “Mac installer files” folder (fmpa_18.0.3.317.dmg + LicenseCert.fmcert). Note the .dmg file is large and may take some time to download.
Once both are downloaded, double click the dmg file to open it.
Double click the FileMaker Pro 18 Advanced.pkg and click continue from the pop up message.
Choose destination for the software and click install. You will need to enter the master User Name and Password for your computer. Click “Install Software”.
Files will now be installed. Allow access to files in your downloads folder. Then close installer file once complete.
At some point in the process FileMaker will need to access the License Certificate that you downloaded from Network drive. If FileMaker doesn’t locate the file automatically you can browse to the location of the file and point to it.
4. For Windows version of FileMaker, first determine if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Window. This link may be of assistance in determining: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/determine-whether-computer-running-32.html
For Windows 32-bit, download both files in the “Windows 32 bit installer files” folder (fmpa_18.0.3.317_x32.exe + LicenseCert.fmcert). Note the .exe file is large and may take some time to download.
For Windows 64-bit, download both files in the “Windows 64 bit installer files” folder (fmpa_18.0.3.317_x64.exe + LicenseCert.fmcert). Note the .exe file is large and may take some time to download.
Double click the folder and follow the instructions.
5. For Mac & Windows: Next you need to add our hosted database to FileMaker. If you need to add password first, see #6 below then come back to this step. To add our hosted database, open FileMaker and navigate to Favorites. Click the + “Add App” button. Choose “From Host” option. When Hosts window opens click the + sign at the top left of window. A new window will open (Add Favorite Host) . In the Hosts Internet address box enter: a711807.fmphost.com
In the Favorite Hosts Name box enter OP Database.
6. Next, find the Passwords document in the Team Information folder on the Network drive. Choose the least level of access needed, most likely “write only access”. Until you are an experienced user it is best to choose write only access which has no delete privileges so you don’t accidentally delete content. Full access includes delete privileges. Next open FileMaker and enter the corresponding account name listed in the Passwords document from the network drive. In case unclear, this means don’t enter your name as the account name - enter the account name as indicated in the Passwords document and also enter the password. You should now be able to login.
7. You should be all set to access OP’s database with the appropriate level of access. Close the application and double check you are able open the application. If yes, all done!
*Troubleshooting note: if at some point in the process you need the License Certificate and don’t know what to do, see #8 above.
