Final Thought

Middling and mediocre, Men in Black: International proves to be a truly insignificant yet entertaining addition to the MIB universe.

Synopsis

20 years ago, an alien invasion impacted a household in Manhattan and affected Molly for the rest of her life. Now an adult,  Molly (Tessa Thompson) tracks down and finds the Men in Black, a secret organization that keeps track of and handles the alien population of the world. Paired with Agent H, she is sent to London to deal with a problem that turns into something that will impact the whole world.

Review

For me, Tessa Thompson is the stand out. We already know this, but she needs to be in more films (if Creed or Dear White People are any indication). Kumail Nanjiani serves as the comic relief. He gets some of the biggest laughs (of the few). Overall, it's entertaining but it's also dull and flat. Almost nothing lands in terms of comedy and it's just bland. There is not much life outside of the action and there's nothing in it to make it bad but nothing to make it particularly good. The film seems like a blatant cash grab just because of the mediocrity that this film seems to exhibit so proudly. It's a little frustrating because this is such a letdown from the success of the original MIB trilogy. As an aside, the twist is predictable. It's disappointing. There is not much to say about this movie other than what I have already (that's why the review is so short). It's forgettable and unnoteworthy. It's just there.
