The Ontario Warrior Band Program offers three concert bands for students in grades 6 through 8 separated by grade level.

See the description under each band for their activities as well as a list of required classroom materials.

The 6th grade band meets 1st period. Unlike 5th grade band, 6th grade students will meet everyday in a full concert band setting, not in instrument families.

6th Grade Band Required Materials:

1) Instrument! - the same one you used in 5th grade band

2) Essential Elements for Band Book #1 (YELLOW cover) - Used in 5th grade band

3) Three Ring Binder - for band book, sheet music, and handouts passed out during class

4) Pencil - we always write in pencil NOT in ink!

The 7th grade band meets 3rd period everyday and is a continuation of the music fundamentals learned in 6th grade. During their 7th grade year, band students are exposed to marching band for the first time as well as OMEA Large group style events. Interested students will also have the opportunity to explore other band instruments (french horn, tuba, double reeds etc.) based on the needs of the band program.

7th Grade Band Required Materials:

1) Instrument! - we will start with the same one from 6th grade

2) Essential Elements Book #1 (YELLOW) AND Essential Elements Book #2 (RED) - we will start in book #1 and move to book #2 throughout the year.

3) Three Ring Binder - for band book, sheet music, and handouts passed out during class

4) Pencil - we always write in pencil NOT in ink!

The 8th grade band meets 2nd period everyday and is a continuation of the music fundamentals learned in 7th grade. 8th grade students will build their music fundamentals towards high school band and be exposed to much of the high school music by the end of the year. In addition, percussion students will be exposed to drumline and other activities they will experience with high school marching band. On occasion, select 8th grade students may be afforded the opportunity to participate as a member of the high school marching and/or concert bands.

8th Grade Band Required Materials:

1) Instrument! - we will start with the same one from the end of 7th grade

2) Essential Elements Book #2 (RED) - we will continue from where we left off

3) Other Band Method Books - PROVIDED throughout the year from Mr. D

4) Three Ring Binder - for band book, sheet music, and handouts passed out during class

5) Pencil - we always write in pencil NOT in ink!
