The Onslow County Tournament
In 1972 the first Onslow County Tournament was wrestled at White Oak on a weeknight with White Oak, Jacksonville and Lejeune. It was continued in 1973 at Lejeune. 1976 saw the addition of Southwest Onslow as the fourth Onslow county team. In the late 1980's an "Onslow County Invitational" was held at Dixon involving most of the county wrestling teams along with an outside team from Roanoke Rapids. At least once this tournament filled the brackets by allowing each team to enter a "scoring" wrestler as well a non-scoring JV wrestler. One time the finals involved two wrestlers from the same team and sometimes the non-scoring wrestler advanced to the finals while the "scoring" wrestler of the same school did not.
