Introduction
The Government of India has launched the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative to democratize access to global scholarly literature. ONOS provides access to e-resources from more than thirty reputed international publishers, thereby promoting research excellence, academic innovation, and equitable access to knowledge for students, faculty, and researchers across the country.
In this context, the Department of Library Science and IQAC of Government Degree College, Mulugu, propose to organize a One Day National Workshop on ONOS to create awareness, provide hands-on training, and deliberate on challenges and opportunities related to ONOS usage, especially in rural and semi-urban academic institutions.
About ONOS
The "One Nation One Subscription" (ONOS) project markedly enhances access to educational resources. Its characteristics and significance
On 15 August 2022, the Prime Minister of India emphasized the significance of research and development in the nation during his address from the ramparts of the Red Fort as part of the Amrit Kaal event. He had proclaimed the resounding call of "Jai Anusandhan" on that occasion. The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) indicates that research and innovation are essential for exceptional education and progress in our nation. The Government of India has sanctioned the One Nation One Subscription scheme as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat@2047 initiative. This scheme aims to grant nationwide access to international high-impact scholarly research articles and journal publications for students, faculty, and researchers affiliated with all Higher Education Institutions governed by both central and state governments, as well as Research and Development Institutions under the central government.
One Nation One Subscription provides access to online publications obtained via library consortia of government entities, consolidated on a single platform for academic and research institutions, as well as through individual subscriptions by various institutions and government universities. The government, educational, and research institutions are subscribing to around 8,000 e-periodicals from various publishers, including foreign and international journals. Additionally, several resources are subscribed to by multiple consortia and institutions across India. ONOS enables consolidated access to scholarly e-resources and material from 30 publishers.
