English is a Piece of Cake

School year 2019/2020

About the project

The aim of this project is to encourage children to develop an interest in learning English. We want students to develop a positive attitude towards English with the help of enjoyable activities. Students will write their own English short stories (beginner level) and create digital books and interactive activities about the stories. The partners in this project come from 14 different countries which provides great opportunities for students to meet new cultures and make new friends.

Introduction

First activities were dedicated to the introduction of the teachers and the students. They all created bitmojis or talking avatars and wrote some information about themselves and their schools. We displayed the avatars and the descriptions in our school hall and posted all the work on Twinspace.

Creating and choosing characters for the project

Students drew characters and after the final voting these are the winners. They will be the main characters of all the e-books that the students are going to create.

Online meeting

On 6th January 2020 the teachers had an online video conference to discuss and plan the following activities of the project.

All the members of the project created one page in the common book The English Alphabet. Our task was to create the page for the letter Y.

The creation of this e-book was carried out in teams. Our school cooperated with schools from France and Greece. The students drew the two main characters wearing different clothes in different seasons, as well as the backgrounds for the seasons. They recorded their voices and made online games for practicing clothes vocabulary.

Each school researched one of the European countries. We made a page about Austria. The students found some basic information about Austria and common Austrian names for the new characters. They drew national costumes for the characters, the Austrian flag, the national flower and wrote the conversation between Mary, Max and the new characters, Thomas and Maria.
