Coach's corner
Coach's corner
We wouldn’t be able to run this club without volunteer coaches! There are incentives and supports in place for our coaches, including waiving the club fee for coaches (or their playing child) and providing our beginner coaches manual (see below), put together by our own Caroline Burgess. If you'd like to become a Piranha coach, send us an email and we'll be in touch.
Have you got what it takes to be a Piranhas coach?
Our coaches must uphold our club values and conduct themselves in a positive and respectful manner (aligned with the Basketball SA Code of Behaviour). Coaches over the age of 18 must have a current WWCC (Apply for a screening check), while coaches under the age of 18 must have a responsible adult in attendance at all training sessions and games. Coaches are required to train their team once a fortnight, and attend their weekly game.

Reporting and responding to a breach of Safeguarding children and young people policy
**If you are concerned about a child or young person and have a reasonable suspicion they are, or may be, at risk of harm, call the Child Abuse Report Line (CARL) on 13 14 78** The report line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If there is immediate risk to personal safety, call 000 immediately. Please also ensure you report any concern, suspicion, disclosure, or observation of abuse, neglect, bullying, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour that may put a child or young person at risk of harm, whether it occurs within or outside the club to Thanuja Hiripitiyage, our Child Protection Officer, at cpopiranhasbasketballclub@gmail.com.
Team Managers
We try to appoint a Team Manager for each team, however this is contingent upon volunteers. Team Managers are also required to have a current WWCC (Apply for a screening check), and preferably over the age of 18 (due to the nature of their role).
Additional support
The Piranhas also have a Junior Team Coordinator and Senior Team Coordinator (both currently vacant, however Linda Richter is acting as caretaker for both). Their main role is to support connections between coaches to facilitate borrowed players to prevent team forfeits. To get in touch with the Junior or Senior Team Coordinators, please contact the club (onkapiranhas.info@gmail.com).
