To ensure the full lifecycle of your hand-poured soy wax tin, the first burn is the most important.
Protocol:
Allow the melted wax pool to reach the full edge of the vessel during the initial light, typically within 2–3 hours.
Why It Matters:
Soy wax develops a natural burn memory. A full first burn helps prevent “tunneling,” in which wax burns only through the center, leaving unused wax along the edges. This creates a cleaner, more even experience for every burn that follows.
Our lead-free cotton-and-paper-core wicks are designed for a steady, balanced flame and optimal fragrance performance.
Protocol:
Trim the wick to 1/4 inch (6 mm) before every relight.
Why It Matters:
A properly trimmed wick supports a calmer flame, helps minimize excess soot, and promotes an even, controlled burn throughout the life of the candle.
Burn Intervals:
Do not exceed a 4-hour burn cycle at one time. This helps preserve fragrance integrity and supports the long-term performance of the wax.

At Onion Bake, we work exclusively with natural soy wax, a material that behaves very differently from mass-produced synthetic blends. Soy wax has a natural threshold for fragrance retention, and exceeding that balance can compromise both performance and burn quality.
Over-saturating a candle with excessive fragrance oil may lead to discoloration, oil separation, uneven burning, and reduced structural stability within the wax.
For this reason, every Onion Bake formulation is calibrated to a precise fragrance ratio to maximize scent throw while preserving the integrity of the burn.
