Trenna Austin has transfixed viewers with her sense of visual urgency and vitality that involves an aesthetic fascination allowing the viewer to sense the negotiation, engagement and tension in her paintings. Inspired by historical art and Australian history, Trenna combines her subject with pictorial beginnings to abstracted endings.

Austin’s painting practice swings precariously from improvisation to more conscious control from figuration to abstraction, avoiding closure revelling in ambiguity and surprise. Austin likes to show subtlety and clarity in the midst of apparent chaos. Her palette is colour lead and colour driven and shows layers of fine oil paint that are physical and fluid. Her broken up images have a rhythmical quality of calm and chaos. Austin paints in oil, acrylic and watercolour which showcase representational expressionism and gestural abstraction.

Austin graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Distinction) 2020 majoring in painting, winning the John McCaughey Prize for ‘Best Painting’ at the National Art School in Sydney, Australia. Austin was also selected for the prestigious Harvey Galleries National Art School Graduate Exhibition Award 2020 for ‘Outstanding’ work which was exhibited in February 2021 at Harvey Galleries in Sydney. In 2021, Austin was selected as National Finalist, for the 18th Annual National Acquisitive Paddington Art Prize and as a National Finalist for the Gallipoli Art Prize in 2022.

Austin holds a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art (Distinction) and an Advanced Diploma in Advertising and Graphic Design. Austin's dedication rewards her with paintings sold in the United Kingdom and Australia-wide.

This led to the opening of ‘TRENNA AUSTIN Gallery’ her first solo business adventure from 2021 to 2023, on Military Road, Mosman, NSW, Australia.
