Karen MacDonald

Karen artistic journey started at the old Tin Sheds, Sydney University in the early 80s, when she was introduced to photography. She went on to study Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts, Balmain majoring in photography and printmaking.

A decade or so later painting became her passion and she studied at Hornsby & Meadowbank TAFE Open Studio programs.

Primarily an expressive landscape painter using various mediums including oils & acrylic, her artwork is dominated by gestural, loose mark making & colour.

The sea is a dominant theme throughout her work & the ever changing colours of water, both ocean and on land trying as she tries to express the depth and light.

Travel throughout Australia and overseas as well as a love of photography compliment her work and palette.

Karen also enjoys portrait painting from time to time as well as figures in the landscape and has been a finalist in the Gallipoli Art prize & Hunters Hill Art Prize.
