Barbara Aroney

Barbara Aroney

Barbara Aroney has been painting, drawing and printmaking for many years, joining one+2 artist studios in 2007. Her artistic practice is based on responding to life around us all; observing, remembering and mark making. She paints in oils, draws in charcoal and conté and experiments with printmaking techniques. She also has an interest in watercolours and in making artist books.

Her subjects include nature, the countryside and interior spaces, often of the large cathedral - like spaces of old shearing sheds. She employs layers of line, tone and colours to add intensity to the surface and to allude to the complexity and vivacity of life.

Barbara Aroney has had many solo exhibitions and group shows and has been a finalist in the Mosman and Broken Hill competitions. She has won commendations and prizes for drawing, printmaking and painting, and the Open Prize at the annual Frost Over Barraba Arts Festival. Her work is in many private collections in Australia and overseas, and is held in the Jessie Street Library, State Library of NSW and The Australian National Library.
