Elisabeth Kelvin

Elisabeth Kelvin

Maintaining a diverse practice in music performance and visual arts Elisabeth Kelvin energetically and enthusiastically paints what she hears and plays what she sees. Her journey is wholly interdisciplinary as she creates multiple artistic paths as a teacher, performer, composer, and ultimately, a visual artist.

As a professional classical clarinetist with orchestras in the U.S.A. and Australia, Elisabeth instigated and fostered contemporary chamber music through solo and ensemble premieres of numerous pieces by living composers. Jazz performance since 1999 has broadened Kelvin’s palette cultivating a new understanding of colour, rhythm, improvisation and structural juxtaposition. This interdisciplinary direction is revealed in her graphically notated composition noiseworks and Polyphonic Visions for ensemble as well as her visual interpretation of saxophonist Ornette Coleman’s “harmelodics”.
