Avril Chiswell is a professional artist who lives in the inner west of Sydney. She has been exhibiting for many years; her most recent solo show was at the One + 2 artists studio gallery.

A painter, Avril is interested in movement, colour and shape –plants, trees, birds, jugs, cups, seed pods, drapes – all inspire her. She uses complex compositional ideas with a large dose of intuition and gives a strong feeling of movement around each of her paintings and drawings.

She prefers semi – abstract as the simplification of what she sees gives her greater freedom with shape and colour. Music is a great influence – Avril is passionate about all kinds of music and relates her work to it. Her abstractions give the feeling of music – that is – to be heard/seen, ‘felt’ but not necessarily understood.

Avril studied at the Blackpool School of Art (UK) for 2 years and graduated with a Diploma of Painting from East Sydney Tech.
