Anne Carney

Ann Carney is a Sydney artist. Her life’s passion is painting and she has enjoyed a long and rich career.

Throughout her career Ann has been fascinated by the human form and the changing natural landscape that surrounds her. She explores her subjects with fluid lines and rich blocks of colour, in ink, pen, water colour and oil paint.

Ann’s work has been exhibited throughout Australia and in Ireland and the US. She was recognised as a significant Australian artist in the publication “The Unseen Art Scene - 32 Australian Women Artists” (published in 1995). She has won many awards and prizes such as “The Archers International Competition”, France and the Willoughby City Art Prize. Her work is also held in many collections including the University of NSW and St Vincents Hospital.

From the 1970s Ann lived in Northwood on the Lane Cove River. Whilst in Northwood, Ann painted and studied with Marie Santry and Loyd Rees of the “Northwood Group”; and was with Marie that Ann studied life drawing and further explored a rendering of the Nude. Later, Ann studied with the celebrated Chinese calligrapher and artist Mr Lau.

Ann has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of New South Wales.
