Philosophy
The visual arts have a major role to play in all aspects of human life, both at the level of the individual and the society. The Fine and Applied Arts programme, therefore, attempts to nurture individual creative potentials to full maturity while at the same time ensuring that artistic creativity contributes positively not only to cultural development but also to technological and industrial advancement.
Objectives
The major objective of the programme is to equip students with essential practical and academic training required to integrate theoretical knowledge with the historical context of the arts. Given the significant role of visual arts as a cultural agent in various aspects, the programme has been crafted to broaden students' intellectual horizons before they choose their area of specialisation.
There is a concerted initiative aimed at encouraging students to develop their individual creativity, cultivate an appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, and recognise the global dimensions of art. This objective will be realised through practical instruction in studio settings, exploration of indigenous creative methodologies, as well as through lectures, seminars, and tutorials that address the historical contexts of the arts.Â
Thus trained, the prospective graduate should be able to make the necessary impact as an instructor in all educational institutions dealing with cultural matters and the society at large.
