Middle School Book Tasting

The Middle School Book Tasting was a fascinating event where the Middle Schoolers got to go around and explore different genres of books. They each had a ‘Menu’ to write information about all the books that caught their eye in each genre.

The Anguilla Library Representatives came and signed up some of the children without a library card. The Middle School Book Tasting was a very intriguing and fascinating experience for all of the middle school students.

There were Different Types of Novels like Biographies...

…like Graphic Novels, and other interesting Genres for all ages to read.

The Grade 7 and 8 classes wrote down one book from each Genre.

The Library visited and students without library card signed up.

3rd Grade visits heritage sites

3rd Grade went on a historical field trip to learn more about Anguilla. While on the field trip, they ate snacks at the trough which was where the cows used to eat when they did agriculture in the area.

They visited the historical church, where they looked at The Valley Well. They then went to the Wallblake House which was originally called Vallblake House but eventually in Anguilla dialect they changed the ‘V’ to a ‘W’. The Valley used to be named The Walley but they changed it to "Valley".

They saw the mill ground at Wallblake House, they went past the Great House and they saw two plantations. There was one huge plantation on one side of Sandy Ground. Their visit to the Pumphouse was educational and they talked about the history of salt. They went to Zemi Beach and talked about how it relates to the Zemi, a god who the Amerindians worshipped. The class learned that Tamarinds originally came from Africa and came here when the enslaved Africans arrived.

World Afro Day Celebrated By Omololu Students

Omololu students and staff came to school in their Afros on Tuesday, September 15th, 2020. This was a really fun day!

(Some people even named their Afro...!)

Without the Ministry of Education, this would not have been possible. The ministry encouraged all students, teachers and the wider Anguillian community to celebrate World Afro Day by displaying their natural hair. In the press release advertising the event, the Minister of Education, the Honourable Miss Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers stated, "the Ministry of Education intends on finding ways to ensure that students, staff and the community embrace and are accepted for their hair type."
