7th Grade Donates to AARF

Animals at AARF Receive Donations From Grade 7.

As part of its Social Studies programme, the Omololu International School Grade 7 class is focusing on becoming well-rounded global citizens who live with intent. Part of this initiative began with the students designing a campaign to collect pet food for the Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation (AARF). Students worked together to design a logo, create posters, flyers and a slogan for the pet food drive. The activity ended with a visit to the shelter.

Students delivered their batch of donations and handed them over to the shelter volunteers. The class was able to learn about AARF and understand the functions of the shelter. Through a tour, students were able to observe how the AARF volunteers take care of the animals. During the visit, they also had the opportunity to play with the rescued animals. Dogs and cats at AARF are frequently advertised for adoption on its social media pages.

The Grade 7 students will be raising awareness and collecting donations for other causes in Anguilla as the school year progresses. As a consequence of these actions, Grade 7 will be able to give back to the community and learn more things about volunteerism.

3rd Grade Reads to Puppies at AARF

The Omololu 3rd Grade class is studying their unit of inquiry, which focuses on communication, travel and more. The reason they took a trip that is not aligned directly with their unit of inquiry, is because it actually focuses on caring, which was one of the PYP profiles that they have been learning about. AARF reached out to their class because the International Shelter Buddy Reading program was being promoted the day before.

AARF collaborates with the Missouri Shelter for dogs which was participating in the program, and they decided that they wanted to take part as well, in Anguilla.

Their teacher decided to take her class for two days meaning she split the class into two groups so the students had an opportunity to gain knowledge and information about what AARF does. The students also learned about the importance of how to take care of animals.

It's a great opportunity not only for the puppies, but also for students to enhance their reading skills so the students are actually reading with the puppies. At first, they played with the puppies for a while. The puppies got used to them and then they split them into groups and they each in pairs had puppies that they read their books to.

The most interesting part was after the puppies calmed down, they were listening like children and were looking up at them. It was a great experience for both the puppies and the students. We are now looking at trying to put together a schedule where other grade levels can also visit and spend time at AARF with the puppies.
