A dedicated community of parents and caregivers in Olympia, Washington advocating for students with extra support needs in the Olympia School District. We meet quarterly either on Zoom or in-person with a mix of social and informational events each school year, share local resources, and support each other. Our priorities & advocacy reflect real feedback from the special education community.
One of the biggest challenges families face is finding trained and reliable childcare during school breaks. Many of our students can’t go to camps or traditional daycare and there is a statewide shortage of Home Care Aids.
OSSEC leadership and district staff have been brainstorming ideas for a while now on how we could partner to help families. One idea that surfaced was to advertise potential outside work opportunities to district employees who may be looking for extra pay by assisting families during breaks. We think this could potentially be a win/win situation.
This is a new system, thank you for your patience as we work out any kinks!
