Students attentively listen to a pre-laboratory talk on detecting phosphate levels in water samples. Using a spectrophotometer, they will analyze real-world data to explore environmental science and the importance of water quality testing.
Students preparing several samples for testing.

LAKE ST. GEORGE
Joint Science and Geography Trip
Students out in a solar-powered pontoon boat to collect lake water samples at various depths. They would later perform a series of tests on the collected water including testing for levels of oxygen, phosphates, nitrate, and carbon dioxide.
Students preparing the net which will be used to catch a sampling of fish that live within Lake St. George.
Students sketching biological diagrams of the fish sampling obtained. They would then identify the species and abundance of the fish caught.
Working in collaborative groups, students explore a topographic map to locate specific coordinates and to identify natural and human-made features. This activity gave students detailed and accurate graphic representations of features that appear on the Earth's surface.
Students use a compass to locate the UTM coordinates for specific locations on the topographic map.
Students engage in an outdoor recreational activity known as Geocaching where they are given the opportunity to refine their navigational techniques, study the geography of the lake grounds, and become further aware of our environmental needs.
Grade 10 AP Prep Students
SPADINA HOUSE MUSEUM
