THOUGHTS ON PARENTING
-COACH TIM CORBIN

Being a parent is the most rewarding "job" in the world. But, with that being said, it is also the most difficult calling in the world.

During a baseball game, "you can be a parent, you can be an coach, OR  you can be an umpire. Choose one, but you cannot be all three."

CONNECTING

Starting in 2023, we instituted a program wide emphasis on "physical touch" to increase our ability to connect as a group. Players took it upon themselves to high five, fist bump, hug, and continually find ways to show appreciation for those around them. "Dap me up," was a concept shared in our classroom, as well as the impact that physical touch has on the success of teams and organizations.

COMMUNICATING

We ask that our players communicate directly with the coaches. We would like for the players to develop a relationship with their coaches enough where they can take messages home. As we say, "Develop life skills..." and communicating appropriately is the start of that. At times, the conversations are more personal and need to be face-to-face, but we want our kids feeling like they have an advocate they can reach out to about anything.

HAVING FEEL

Many things we talk about in the classroom are not instructed on the field. It is the players' ability to use what they learn and then "let it rip" on the field. In this video, you see a player understanding the situation and working to add value to the play, as he works behind the catcher on the overthrow to let his teammate know whether he should slide (up or down).

JOY FOR OTHERS

Watch number 2 as he celebrates an early season win. This epitomizes what it means to be "all in" for the team. He showed joy for his teammates regardless of playing time...ALL YEAR LONG. This was a video from game 6 of the year. The picture below is of game 30.
