Traction is the first album by New Zealand rock band Supergroove. It was released in 1994 by RCA Records[1], debuting at number one on the New Zealand albums chart and quickly reached platinum status there.[2] Before the band could record their second album, Che Fu was fired from the band.[1] Supergroove would end up releasing their second and final album, Backspacer, without Fu. To date, the album has achieved the requirements for platinum status five times over.[3]
Prior to Supergroove's second album Backspacer, singer Che Fu and trumpeter Tim Stewart were fired from the band.[3][4][5] The band then entirely split up in 1997 over creative differences. Seven years after the group split a 'Best Of' compilation, Postage, was released.

The album was produced by Neil Finn and featured Alan Gregg and Ross Burge of the Mutton Birds as Dobbyn's backing band. It was engineered by the same American producer, Tchad Blake, that mixed Salty.
Supergroove's 'Scorpio Girls' hit number three on the NZ charts in 1993 and was the band's first single to attain gold record status. It was also included as the opening track on their 1994 debut album Traction. The video, directed by Supergroove bass player Joe Lonie, translates the band's sense of fun and boundless energy to the small screen, combining live performance clips with footage of the band members, armed with torches and running through the old tunnels at North Head on Auckland's North Shore.
It was so well received that we now return with Volume 2 because so many more vinyl albums have become available. Now, as you may see from my introduction, we are only talking about readily available albums, those which had a limited edition or require some serious seeking out won't be here.
