Currently in a band where the guitar player has never really played guitar before and I am an experienced bass player. Does anyone have some good songs that we can play that he can easily learn on guitar and I can still have some fun on on the bass?

Hardbass first began to emerge in the late 1990s, mainly in the Saint Petersburg electronic dance music underground, when the pumping house genre, built around the bamboo bass, or donk bass (a type of metallic bass synthesizer sound, first invented by Klubbheads in 1997), became a staple in local raves.[2] Eventually, party nights dedicated solely to pumping house were held in Saint Petersburg and to a lesser extent, in Moscow. The most famous venues for pumping raves in Saint Petersburg included those held in the "Rassvet" (Dawn) club and forest raves in a quarry near Mednoe Ozero [ru], an artificial lake not far from Saint Petersburg. Among the DJs kickstarting the domestic pumping house production in Russia were DJ Tolstyak, DJ 8088, DJ Yurbanoid, DJ Solovey, Dj Glyuk, and many others.

To increase the energy of the parties, Saint Petersburg producers and DJs started to increase the BPM of the pumping house they played and produced, eventually reaching 150 BPM and beyond. Saint Petersburg producers would include distinct whistles and other samples into their production, which would later crystallize into the hardbass sound as it is generally known. At the same time the characteristic lingo of hardbass formed, including:

The scene formed darker offshoots, most prominently the metal shade subgenre, pioneered by DJ Barabass, DJ Rentgen among others, known for dark and menacing atmosphere, robotic or low pitched monstrous voices and donk bass, mutated into sounds akin to metallic rods hitting one another.

This scene wasn't much concerned with nationalism. According to members of the Moscow Hardbass School, a wave of nationalistic chants started, however, when local hardbass producer DJ Zheleznye Sharniry began to add skinhead chants, like "1 4 8 8", into his productions, "purely for fun", an influence from the widespread Russian skinhead culture of the 2000s.

Some commentators in Slavic countries of the European Union at first considered these flash mobs to be serious manifestation of right-wing propaganda, especially given the lyrics in the song, saying "We bring hardbass to your home, 1 4 8 8", with "1 4 8 8" being a neo-Nazi lingo for "Fourteen words" and Hitler salute.[5] However, experts quickly grasped that the usage was ironic, and that the hardbass crowds consisted mostly of football hooligans and bored teenagers, rather than of actual neo-Nazis.[5] Neo-Nazis around that times also dismissed the connection to hardbass, blaming it on left-wing and anarchist circles instead.[5] However, commentators still identified some right-wing sympatizers in the hardbass attacks, but, according to Miroslav Mares, an expert in far-right extremism from Brno Masaryk University, the influence of hardbass attacks on public opinion was negligible.[5]

The next wave of hardbass exposure to the world began when the Narkotik KAL (Drug is BAD) music video became viral on YouTube in 2011. The context for this video was a protest, albeit satirical, against illegal substance use and abuse in Russia, and especially against so called "krokodil", which became more widespread after perestroika.[6][7]

Making a spotify playlist consisting of bass heavy songs and song with super hard drops as i just got a new phone that has an AMAZING eq and i finally can enjoy that hard bass with earphones. The newer song the better

I would be very interested to know what you all think, particularly those of you who have been on B2B for a couple years. Is this song as hard to learn as people think, especially if slowed down a bit?

I think it is great to have a song that you really like (very important!) as a long-term project, which you can tackle in sections and work on for some time, then let it sit, and pick it up again at a later time. I have a couple of those, which are really tough, but I work on them on and off.

Excellence in bass-playing is a pure and modest virtuosity. Unlike the voice, guitar or drums, the bass is an instrument that rarely takes centre stage. Its role is undoubtedly a crucial one, but much of its good work goes unnoticed - and unappreciated.

BBM - Bruce, Baker and Moore - was a 1990s supergroup formed by three legends of rock music and masters of their instruments. Gary Moore on guitar, Ginger Baker at the drum stool, and Jack Bruce on the all-important bass. After releasing one album, Around the Next Dream, and playing a few gigs, they went their separate ways.

Bassist Adam Duce co-founded Machine Head, and from then until his 2013 departure, he always ensured that his bass was a prominent voice in their heavy-metal soundworld. So it is in this song, in which he binds the ensemble together, at times shadowing the guitar, at others the drums.

In Hermetica, the bass is accompanied by a mixed chorus, which constructs a cathedral of sound. Inside, the bass solo works tirelessly, employing extended techniques and amp effects, handling impossibly dense material against complicated time-signature changes. Lang leaves nothing out in this tour-de-force piece for the instrument.

The group then breaks into a frenzied verse, through which Araya plays a pounding bass line for the whole song, letting up only once between the guitar solo and the last verses. To play this many notes cleanly and to the pulse at this tempo is unspeakably difficult to do. And when Slayer performs, Araya does this in one song after another, time after time.

The song opens in an unsteady 5/8 time, with Chancellor playing a spiky motif that cuts across the prevailing pulse. But that idea is soon replaced by new material, which ranges from gentle melodic lines through syncopated pedals to fast arpeggiated phrases. But in all cases, Chancellor contends effortlessly with irregular and confusing metres.

The top of the list would have to be the great Geddy Lee from Rush. Not only is this song action-packed with amazing bass skills but the song was nominated on the Grammys in 1982 for the Best Rock Instrumental award. Granted it fell short, nevertheless, it was a great runner-up.

The song itself consists of a high tempo and requires a very high skill to be played perfectly. Taking note that the guitar and bass are almost in unison with their notes on multiple parts of the song, gives you an idea of how hard the song is on bass. Shredding on a guitar with a guitar pick can be considered easier than shredding the bass with your fingers.

You can not have a list without mentioning Cliff Burton. Metallica plays a huge role in the music world. The song was first played on March 5th, 1983 in San Francisco and is the first instrumental track to be performed by the band.

At first, the song may sound kind of slow and one would think automatically it is easier. That is not the case since having all that distortion from the bass, it is really hard to give the listener a clear sound of the notes and deliver a perfect performance of this piece. Of course, it gradually builds up as it goes on, and has a wicked bass solo which is quite difficult to master.

The first step of learning this bass line is to memorize it. The bass line has two sections. The first section (measures 1-8) is not difficult to memorize because the bass line only alternates between one note for each beat. The second section (measures 9-16) will take bass players more time because it alternates between two bass notes on every beat of the bar.

The bassline for this song is played in 6/4 and features fast 16th notes, especially when there are sixteenth-note triplets. A bass slide has been used in this line when there are sixteenth-note triplets. It is a worthy challenge for anyone to master for sure. Those of you who are into death metal will find this task difficult but fun to learn and progress with your bass skills.

The list certainly contains a lot of challenging songs to play on bass. There are songs from all genres included so that should expand your skillset. I hope you enjoy playing these songs. As for the difficulty level, you should use it as a means to move forward and advance your play style. There are plenty more difficult bass songs out there to explore, but this is just my take on the matter!

If you just got a new subwoofer or pair of monitors, see how low your system goes with heavy bass songs in a variety of genres. Take any of these for a spin and see for yourself which are the best songs to test bass with!

Skyharbor are a progressive metal outfit from India (with a former English vocalist, and current American one). Their arrangements are quite dense; 7-string rhythm guitars, ambient guitar, synthesizers, and more. The mix in this song is particularly tasteful, and the bass guitar fills in a very obvious spot where you can hear it prominently throughout the track amidst the denseness of the rest of the instruments.

tag_hash_107You have most likely seen it, at least in a video. A couple of men and occasionally women dressed in tracksuits, their faces often covered with masks or balaclavas, gather in a circle and move their bodies (or sometimes just their heads) to very loud and primitive music with distinctive basslines and a fast tempo. The whole picture is picturesque as hell. e24fc04721
