Oki Walks Privacy Policy
Oki Walks (com.okigroup.walks, listed on Google Play as "Walks - Private Tracker") is published by Lee Vinnson, trading as Oki Group ("we", "us"). This policy covers the current version of the app (1.1.0).
No accounts, no analytics. You don't sign up or give us your name or email. The app has no analytics or crash-reporting tools of its own, and we never receive your walks.
Location. The app reads your precise location on your phone while the map is open (to show where you are and re-centre the map) and while you're recording a walk. Only the locations from recorded walks are saved, and only on your phone. Known issue: if you allowed location access "all the time", the app may read your location in the background even when you're not recording. These readings aren't saved. A fix is coming in an upcoming release. You can change the location permission at any time in Android settings.
On your phone. Routes and walk names are encrypted. Start and end times, distance and step counts are stored unencrypted. Android cloud backup is turned off for this app, so your walks aren't copied to your Google account.
Maps. Map images load from OpenStreetMap's servers, which see your IP address and roughly which area you're viewing. See https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Ads. Ads are currently switched off, but this version still contains Google's ad software (Google Mobile Ads SDK). It starts each time you open the app and sends ad requests to Google when you stop and save a walk. These include your advertising ID (unless you've deleted it), your IP address and device information. No ads are shown, and your walk saves after a short wait. The next update removes this software completely. Google describes how it uses this information at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads, or Settings > Google > Ads, depending on your phone).
Users in the EEA, UK and Switzerland: this version of the app doesn't ask for your consent before Google's ad software uses your advertising ID. We're sorry about that. An update that removes the ad software from the app is on the way. Until then, you can delete your advertising ID in Android settings (see Ads above), which stops apps from using it.
Security. All of the app's internet connections are encrypted (HTTPS).
Deleting your data. To delete one walk, swipe it left in your walk history. To delete everything, clear the app's data (Settings > Apps > walks > Storage > Clear data) or uninstall the app. We don't hold a copy.
Your rights. If you're in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you can ask to access or delete your data or object to its use, and you can complain to your data protection authority, such as the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (Netherlands), the AEPD (Spain) or the ICO (UK).
Transfers. Google may process ad data outside your country, including in the US.
Children. Oki Walks is not directed at children under 16.
Changes. We'll post any changes on this page and update the date below.
