Standing O

Theatre Company

What is Standing O?

Standing O Theatre Company is the Theatre Department of Oswego High School! Throughout the school year, we put on multiple performances in the Barnes Performing Arts Center as well as host other opportunities to showcase our students' talent on and off stage!

Season Shows

Fall Play

The Fall Play is the first show of the Standing O season! All grades can audition! Auditions take place during the first week back to school in the fall and rehearsals run from this time until the show in mid-late October. A great way to kick off the school year!

Winter Play

Only Freshman and Sophomores can audition for this production. The directors and producers consist of upperclassmen but all grades can write for this production! Auditions take place right before Thanksgiving Break in November and rehearsals run from this time until the show in February.

Spring Musical

The Spring Musical is the final production of the Standing O season! All grades can audition! In this show, actors have the opportunity to sing as well as dance. Auditions take place in January the first week back from Winter Break and rehearsals run from this time until the show at the end of April.

Other Seasonal Opportunities

CoffeeHouse

At CoffeeHouse, students can perform any of their talents, and the time limit is 3 minutes. All grades can participate in Coffee House! Previous acts have included singing, spoken word, stand-up comedy, playing a musical instrument, and more! Those who come to see you can order treats: cookies, coffee, muffins, and more!

Improv

All grades can audition for the Oswego Funny Team! Improv meets weekly on Wednesdays after school to prepare for their 2 performances: the Upperclassmen Show at the end of October and the Underclassmen Show in mid-April.

Crew Opportunities

Students who have a passion for the behind-the-scenes aspects of theatre, such as makeup, directing, sound, lighting, carpentry, and costuming, have multiple opportunities to pursue them! Performers are also assigned to a crew at the beginning of each production and rotate crews throughout the season. Below are some photos of work behind-the-scenes over the years!

Musicianship Opportunities

Not only do our musicals need talented crew members, actors, singers, and dancers, but they also need talented musicians to join our Pit Orchestra! The instruments needed for our Pit Orchestra vary between each show depending on the needs of the score, but our Pit Orchestra is integral to the success of our entire musical season. The opportunity to join our Pit Orchestra is offered through the OHS Band program and operates under the direction of Mr. Schoenbach and Mr. Baglione during the show.
