The Ottawa Hills Band Boosters Organization (OHBBO, pronounced “oboe”) supports instrumental music programs in the district through activities, funding, and other resources, increasing the sense of school spirit and pride among the community. As our band program has grown, the needs and opportunities to support the band have also grown, with approximately 120 students at different levels (5th -12th).
OHBBO will provide a centralized source of support for the band program by funding annual student team building activities such as team dinners, Honors Band participation fees, and increasing engagement with the elementary band students/families. Financially, we will set aside funds each year to prepare for the cycle of new uniform purchases, assist with costs related to the band trip that happens every 4 years, support the ongoing repair and replacement of instruments, and provide other enhancements beyond what the district is able to support.
OHBBO fundraisers will be carefully chosen to be mindful of volunteer and donation requests while helping achieve specific fundraising goals. We also intend to enhance the experience of the students in the band programs by hosting events such as team dinners during Band Camp and after the Homecoming Parade and identifying ways to engage Junior High and Elementary band students.
What are the "big picture" goals of OHBBO?
Increase the sense of team and community among band students and families
Support the existing culture where elementary students are eager to join the band and stay involved all the way through their high school years
Support the Strategic Plan and “create a lifelong sense of belonging” so the students can continue to be engaged and feel connected even as alumni
Supplement the district funding for band to help with enhancements and care for the program
