What Do We Believe?
We believe that in both the school lives and home lives of our children, important literacy activities are taking place. Reading, talking, writing, and thinking to learn, communicate, and make sense of the world are occurring throughout the daily moments across our children's lives.
We are so thankful to live in a community where the importance of literacy is recognized. Research from the Blue Zones Project tells us that in the places that are considered HAPPY, there are four main focal points. Working to ensure that all children can read is Number One.
So, with literacy already firmly embedded in the lives of our children, we wonder about the power of engaging children in coordinated literacy activities between school and home. Activities that move beyond homework routines; placing literacy at the center of the triangular relationship of child, home, and school, wrapping each child in the joy and functions of connected literacy events. Activities spanning the continuum from specifically designed tasks that guide parents and inform teachers, to engaging families in open community events.
We believe that working to sustain such an intentional, coordinated interaction between home and school will multiply and strengthen links of literacy across our communities. Our belief drives us to seek opportunities to create the tools, resources, and connections necessary to serve the learning needs of the child by supporting the learning team of home and school.
