How does a reverse bang work?
- This is a Reverse Bang! That means artists are in focus, and the prompts are based on art rather than writing, as is customary for Big Bangs. For claims, artists send in their art and writers claim the pieces they want to write a story for. Claims are anonymous. After claims, you will be emailed the information of your collaboration partner and the two of you will then create art/fic together! When the fic is close to finished, a beta will read over the fic.
How can I participate?
- There are several different ways to participate. Sign-ups for artists and writers are time-based and you can find the exact dates on our schedule. However, we also need pinch-hitters (both for fic and art), beta-readers, sensitivity readers, and cheerleaders! Fill out the specific form and you’re a participant. On this site, the roles are split into "artist", "writer", and "support". Be sure to read over the requirements of each role before signing up.
Do I need an AO3 to participate?
- All of the final fics will be posted to the collection on AO3 so writers should have one. If you're an artist, you don't need an AO3 if your writer 1) posts the art inline with the text or 2) links to the art in the fic.
Can I collaborate with someone?
As this is a bang where the writer can claim something to collaborate with, there will be collaboration after claims.
Before claims:
Artist/artist collaborations before claims are permitted. That said, if you want to co-artist with someone and have the two/three/etc of you submit your single piece for claims, then please speak to a mod first. If approved, just remind us of the agreement on the sign-up form. This will also be noted on the submission slide so the future writer will know what they’re signing up for.
Writer/artist collaborations before claims is not allowed at this time.
What if I want to submit more than one thing for claims?
- Each artist is allowed to submit up to two pieces for submissions, but both must meet the minimum requirements. The cap on slides submitted for claims is 2. Each submission can contain multiple art pieces, but will all be centred around the same collaboration. If you want to do more, consider signing up as a pinch hitter.
There’s a cap on art submissions, but is there a cap on overall works? What if I want to submit two art pieces and also claim art so I can write a fic?
– We love all of you overachievers, but we also want to make sure that each collaboration gets the attention it deserves. It’s hard to set a specific limit considering everyone has different levels of collaboration and what they can take on. In general, though, if you submit art, we encourage you to only handle one fic (or sign up to be a pinch hitter).
What’s the exact timeline where you decide to open claims up?
- The exact time will be announced later. When we open the claiming period, it’ll typically take 24-48 hours for the initial rush to happen. This is where most of the art is claimed, but there is always a handful that are left. This does not mean that the art is bad. The mind of each writer is different and some literally do a roulette to decide their lists. There has never been an instance where a piece of art has not been on multiple lists. After that initial rush is when we let writers jump in to claim a second piece if they so choose.
Why not open those up to people who didn’t sign up in time?
- Surprise, we do! There are always people who find out about the bang late or forgot to sign up. Generally, they have contacted us and we have a list. So if you didn’t sign up in time – let us know! We’ll send you the remaining art to claim as well.
Can I sign up just as a beta reader?
- Yes, we will have beta, pinch-hitter, sensitivity, and cheerleader sign ups under "support" in the links above.
Is there a place I can talk to other writers/artists?
- Yes! Discord invites are sent out after you sign up.
As an artist, what do I need to have completed?
- Your art must be 50% completed by claim submissions, and 100% finished by your posting date. These percentages are based on you and how you work - we are trusting that you know your process. Some artists use 50% as line work, others are shading, and others are sketches. It depends on your medium. Find more information in the Artist FAQ.
As a writer, what do I need to have completed?
- Your fic must be 100% finished by your posting date. This means that it is formatted and beta-read as well. We will have a beta list, but you can also find one outside of the bang. Find more information in the Writer FAQ.
