You can always ask the internet, but here are definitions for some of the lesser-known or potentially confusing fetish terms listed:
Claustrophilia: being aroused by confinement in enclosed/tight spaces (in other words, it's the opposite of claustrophobia).
Dacryphilia: being aroused by tears and/or crying.
Nebulophilia: being aroused by fog, smoke, or steam.
Objectification: treating a person as a commodity or an object without regard to their personhood or dignity. It can be seen as being related to a humiliation fetish. Typically includes being treated as furniture (such as a footstool or dinner table/plate) and dollification (being turned into a doll).
Omorashi: being aroused by the sensation of having a full bladder and the possibility or actuality of wetting oneself. It is a type of urophilia and can be a form of humiliation play as well as control (allowing or not allowing someone to relieve themselves).
Orgasm control: a broad term that encompasses edging (aka being brought to the brink of orgasm and then down multiple times), forced orgasm, orgasm denial, orgasm ruination, and chastity play.
Sploshing: a type of "wet and messy" (WAM) play typically focused on being covered in or sitting on large amounts of wet/soft food (such as pudding or cakes), and can sometimes include other non-edible substances such as mud or foam.
Yiffing: explicitly sexual activity between furries.
Simply put: attraction or preference crosses the line into fetishization when it reduces the person/group of people to a stereotype and/or a specific physical attribute, essentially not viewing them as a whole person. For example, you could write a character who is attracted to Oluwande or Wee John and appreciates their fat bodies, loves the softness/size/folds of them. But if the work only focuses on their fatness in terms of the other person's sexual gratification or is focused on a stereotype based on physical attributes (especially ones not typically sexualized or deemed attractive by the broader society), it reduces the person to an object and denies their full individuality/personhood.
Sometimes people in objectified groups consensually participate in and enjoy this kind of fetishization (such as in feeding or race play). The exclusion of these types of fetishes is not a value judgment and I encourage you to write them if you want to! It's just that I don't have the time or spoons to evaluate each work for the nuances, so they won't be included here.
There are many fetishes out there and it's impossible to list them all. The initial focus was on fetishes more common in gay/queer male communities, then expanded to ensure two possible prompts for each day.
Some activities, such as breath control or sensation play, fall under BDSM or the larger kink umbrella and were therefore excluded. Also, this event was inspired by events like Kinktober and is not intended to replace or compete with with other events—I wanted to add something kinky but new for the fandom.
You are welcome to add your own fetish on the free spot day (February 29) or include it in another day. Just make sure it doesn't violate the rules if you want it to be included in the collection or promoted on the event social media channels.
Yes, just make sure it's categorized appropriately (OFMD RPF, New Zealand Actors RPF, etc.) to help people find or avoid as needed. Setting RPF works to locked (aka, only viewable to logged-in users) is strongly encouraged.
I'm demolitionwoman on AO3 and Discord. I write smut, mostly, and have been involved in sex education and kink in one way or another for more than 20 years.
I'll do my best to respond promptly if you message me or the event social media accounts, but please remember I am one person and (theoretically) have a life outside of fandom.
