Do you love working at the Writing Center? Well we love having you here! There are lots of ways to stay involved in Writing Center work, and if you're interested, we have some tips below.
If you really enjoyed your English 222 or 482 final research project, you can keep working on it and get course credit! Ask your instructor if you can sign up for an independent study with them to continue your research. Once you've got a solid, fully developed research project, you might consider submitting it to a journal. Check out some of the publishing opportunities below if this interests you.
Check out journals like the YSW, where you might consider submitting your research project from English 222 or 482. If you decide to do an independent study on writing center related work, or even anything related to English language and dialect, this might be a good journal for you to submit to!
Check out publishing and conference opportunities at the IWCA. An international association dedication to writing center studies, the IWCA welcomes peer tutors into their publications and events. As research has come to recognize the importance of peer tutor's input into Writing Center research, the IWCA has encouraged tutors themselves to participate in conferences more and more. You might consider talking to your 222 instructor, or one of the Writing Center directors about how to get involved.
If academic writing isn't your jam, you can also check out the WLN blog, which publishes a variety of articles from peer tutors. They accept 1,000 word "Tutor Perspective" writing that talks about your experience about being a tutor. They also accept feature pieces of up to 1,500 that can be a little more robust. Currently, they are working on their "Resilience Project." They're asking for videos or pictures with captions that talk about how Covid-19 has impacted you. They also encourage writing that is in languages other than English.
