*This is an example of a lesson taught to our younger students.*
Concept:
Knowing how to call for help when it is needed is an important part of a personal safety plan.
Objectives:
Students will be able to:
Identify emergency situations that requires a 911 call
Call 911 and properly report an emergency situation
Key Terms
area code, 911, emergency
Have you child practice calling 911 on a non-working phone. Be sure to remove the battery from the phone, as 011 will still work on a non-activated phone. They can demonstrate how to dial 911 and you can be the 911 operator. Ask them questions about the pretend incident. Remind your child to speak clearly and slowly. They will need to know their full name, address, and phone number with area code. Practice often by describing possible emergency situations. Their skills will become better with repetition and practice.
