You can download Sysinternals Process Explorer (which is a microsoft tool), open it and sort the process list by CPU usage. Then find for example Word and double click on it to open the properties window. You will easily see the thread that is happily eating your cpu cycles away. Just kill this thread. Since its useless telemetry anyway it doesn't seem to affect Word/Excel/etc in any negative way.

After all different attempts, I think I fix the problem. It is indeed that the office 365 telemetry is trying to collect data and communicate through network, however, there might be an issue that the connection is not smooth. What you will need to do is add office telemetry dashboard then enable all the telemetry settings. It fixed the connection problem for me, not Click and run keeps very low in the background. I don't think this is the only solution but this problem is a crazy one.

Office Click And Run Download

This Office click-to-run service hogs up too much memory sometimes even when not using office apps. It is really anonying because sometimes it affets the performnce of other programs. Is there a way to permanently stop this service or configure it in such a way that it only runs while using office apps. Clicking on end task doesnt work because it comes back up the next second.

Update : Found out that Office click-to-run is essential for office apps to function. When I tried disabling the service from services.msc, Word, Pp, Excel etc wont even open. So no point disabling it.

Note: After Disabling the office click to run service, Your MS Office version will no longer be updated automatically to the latest features and security patches. You have to manually check for updates through Microsoft Update.

Traditional software downloads require a complete (and sometimes lengthy) download before the product can be unpackaged, installed and used on an endpoint computer. Click-to-Run streams Office installs over a network, much the same way YouTube streams videos to website visitors. Streaming allows the end user to open and use Office before the entire software suite has been downloaded. If the end user clicks on a part of Office that has not yet been downloaded, Click-to-Run will jump ahead to that part of Office and make it available. Once the entire download is complete and the software has been installed, the end user can run Office offline.

My colleague was facing performance issues with Microsoft Office Click-to-Run on his laptop. He followed these steps and disabled it without causing any problems for his other office applications. It improved his working experience significantly.

Hello Spiceworks,

I have a user that has Office 365 click-to-run applications installed. I would like to install Microsoft Visio for this user, but I do not want to purchase an add-on to my subscription. I would rather make a one time purchase for the software and install on the users machine.

My problem is that (from what I understand) retail versions of Microsoft Visio / Project cannot be installed alongside click-to-run applications. So I have two questions.

From what I can tell (looking at this post Opens a new window) you should be able to create a C2R configuration file for Retail copies of Office/Visio/Project (you can create the config file at config.office.com, then once you have it downloaded edit it to be a Retail Product ID, instead of a Volume one).

So you cannot simply install the click-to-run version of Microsoft Visio using the Office Deployment Tool and then license it using a retail product key? You need to go and purchase a volume license?

They really try to make this as ridiculous as possible it seems.

Need to send a package from your home or office, but don't have a printer? With the enhanced Click-N-Ship experience, you can request USPS Label Delivery service to get physical labels mailed to your address for a $1.25 fee (per label). Here's how it works:

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R key at the same time to open the Run dialogue box. Then type services.msc in the box and click OK.

Step 2: Right-click Microsoft Office Click-to-Run and click Uninstall/Change. Then click Yes to allow this app to make changes to your device.

[German]Can we run Microsoft Office as a click-to-run installation parallel to an MSI installation? Microsoft says no to this. But it seems that there is still a trick that works and bot packages may be installed in parallel.

Microsoft usually offers its Office suite as a click-to-run installation. A web installer then pulls all components of Office and sets them up on a target system. Only works as long as Microsoft offers the download.

The other point are the O365 Office C2R and existing Visio and Project 2016 msi installer. That are normally also not working. But for this MS have a solution with C2R-P: -us/help/3157564/office-click-to-run-perpetual-c2r-p-release-for-project-2016-and-visio

1) Once you have found the path, right click on the right panel (where the records are) and select "New" > "DWORD"

2) Type "SystemComponent" as name of the new record

3) Double click on the record you just created to change value to "1"

I tried installing Access Volume License (windows installer) on a machine with Office 2019 home & business (click-to-run) and "systemcomponent=1" doesn't work. I get a message saying that I must uninstall "empty" to install Access.

Can anyone successfully confirm if they are able to still receive updates on both applications or even install other Microsoft products down the line without having issues? I.E. you installed Office 2016 MSI and Project with C2R using the guidance here and later decide to also install Visio, did it work smoothly or did it uninstall everything, and separately, when the MSI product and the C2R product ran office or windows updates, it actually worked.

Indeed this works. I have Office 2016 Pro Plus (perpetual msi version) installed, and ran into the click to run error when I tried to install Visio 2016 Pro yesterday. I had tried downloading ISO/IMG files from a couple of the discount keycode sites that publish the downloads, but kept getting the error.

And each of these releases come in x64 (64-bit) and x86 (32-bit), you should nearly always be using the 32-bit version, even on a 64-bit operating system. The only reason to go 64-bit for office is if you need crazy amounts of RAM for some specific work, like huge excel spread sheets.

Older Windows version: Right click on the Start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin). If you don't see Command Prompt on the menu, you'll need to type cmd on the Start screen to find the Command Prompt then right click on it and choose Run as Administrator

If you are using Outlook 2016, 2019, or 365, copy the following line, then right click in the command prompt window to paste it. Replace xxxx.yyyy with the build number you want to revert to. You can look up build numbers at Version numbers of update branches for Office 365 clients.

Outlook 2013 users will change the directory to the path of officec2rclient.exe. To do this, in the command prompt window, type (or copy and right-click paste) the following if you are running 64-bit Office:

cd %programfiles%\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX64\

Do you have a license linked to your Microsoft account? Should be able to download from account.microsoft.com. If you did not add the key to a Microsoft account and did not save the officesetup.exe, I'll see if I can find a link.

When you install the click to run version of Office (now Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise) on a PC, the installation updates several settings in the system registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration. Among the settings are:

Some administrators use PowerShell to read these values from the system registry and send the data to a central location for reporting purposes. For example, to see the complete set of values for the click-to-run configuration, use the command:

I'm attempting to install Office 365 2016 through the click-to-run customization and exclude a set of applications. Office installs perfectly fine and the excluded apps are not on the system after the initial install. After I log into my Office 365 account, it starts an office update and the update installs some of the excluded items on the system. 17dc91bb1f
