Dancing for unity and European citizenship
We observed that, the young europeans and maghrebians living in Bretagne, have some difficulties of integration with local youngs. Regarding to this we decided to write this project in the purpose of gathering them around what they love the most: their cultural heritage.
We want to build connections between all these young that represent the future of the european continent and the EU, to fight against rural isolation, racism and nurture a feeling of european citizenship in them.
Our target group, youngs from 16-30 years old, isolated and with financial issues having less access to culture, will discover new cultures through dance and food.
The purpose is that these youngs learn the basics of the cultural heritage of another european country, along with open-mindness and the idea of living together in peace.
We will set up a monthly event, who will shed the light on a european country/region. Through this night, young people from the European diaspora living on Bretagne territory, will show and teach at our target group, their traditionals dances. This class will be followed by a traditional dinner prepared by these young.
In may, a huge event will be organised to gather all the dance knowledges and skills learnt by our target group. The younth of this target group along with the younth from european diaspora will display and teach what they learnt throughout the year to a larger public.
We decided to organise a mobility in Brussels, with the main group, namely the most active group in all the project process, in order to give to the youth of our target group mainly isolated and poor, their first opportunity to discover what is a european mobility and what are the european institutions.
Our project is the link between young people from Bretagne and young people from european and maghrebian diaspora. These two types of youth who coexist together without really living and cooperating.
For the young of our target group, the purposes and impacts expected are clear:
- discovery of Europe and the EU
- acknowledgement of a new culture thanks to dance and gastronomy
- getting away of isolation and loneliness, as making a cosmopolitan network of friends and gaining self-confidence
For the young people from European and Maghreb diaspora :
- don't hide their culture and having the pride of teaching it
- full integration with local culture by finding local friends
For us and the most active group:
- gaining skills about the organisation of events
- knowledge about writing a European project
- self- confidence and maturity
