MAMC

Old Dominion University's Adapted Physical Education faculty and scholars participate in the MAMC, a consortium funded by the Office of Special Education Programs (USDE) focused on preparing leadership personnel in the field of Adapted Physical Activity to serve as higher education faculty.

Mission

The Multi-Institution Mentorship Consortium (MAMC), funded by the Office of Special Education Programs, prepares leadership personnel in the field of Adapted Physical Activity to serve as higher education faculty, and train pre-service physical education teachers and related service professionals to appropriately educate youth with disabilities.

The consortium establishes a collaborative community with partner institutions including East Carolina University, Georgia State University, Ohio State University, Old Dominion University, Oregon State University, Texas Women’s University, University of Delaware, University of Virginia, and West Virginia University.

What Do We Do?

This project provides multi-dimensional preparation programs to train a minimum of 28 doctoral level scholars through tuition/stipend support, enrichment program (i.e., bi-weekly seminars, annual summer institute, and an exchange program), collaborative quality research across institutions in the consortium, and evidence-based practice (teaching assistant for undergraduate courses, direct supervision).

Scholarly Work

In addition, the consortium shares the scholarly work derived from scholars and faculty on a national level (e.g., national conference presentations [e.g., NCPEID], paper publication, and podcast) to make broad and far-reaching impact in the field of adapted physical activity, and ultimately improve education and health outcomes of individuals with high-intensity needs.
