OUR MANDATE

The Office of Counseling and Guidance is a service unit under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs that seeks to assist, provide, and enhance psychosocial support to the various emotions, plans, concerns, and aspirations of UPLB students and constituents. The organization aims to be the support system that will understand their views and learn how to reach their goals with meaningful and well-informed choices through counseling, psychological testing, tutorials, career guidance, and job instructions.

The OCG offers services and activities that focus on counseling, career guidance, wellness, and extension programs.

COUNSELING AND GROUP GROWTH

Counseling Services

The counseling services aim to provide students and the UPLB stakeholders the opportunity to express and clarify their various emotional concerns, feelings, conflicts, plans, and other aspirations which affects affect their different phases in life. The goal of this service is to assist students to understand their views about life and to help them learn how to reach their goals through meaningful and well-informed choices.
This is done in an atmosphere of harmony, acceptance, and privacy.

Guidance Instruction Program

The Guidance Instruction program is a group growth and development activity designed for new students to help in their transition to college life and become a more socially effective and well-adjusted individual.
During the new learning set-up, this will be conducted in a remote delivery via Zoom/Google Meet. pre-recorded webinars, self-directed activities, and live webinar meetings.

Readmission Program

The OCG also gives appropriate recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor of Students Affairs and deans of the UPLB colleges on whether or not to readmit scholastically delinquent students.
The recommendation is based on the assessment of the student’s aptitudes, capabilities, interests, interview, and past records.

Orientation and Information Services


OCG service includes provision of information regarding university academic policies and various programs and services of the offices under the OVCSA.
Referral and follow-up services are also available to cater to different agencies, institutions, and professionals.

PSYCHOSOCIAL WELLNESS, EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH

Mental Health Promotion

The OCG aims to push and promote mental health care and enhance psychosocial support to UPLB students and constituents.
The goal of the OCG is to be a "home, away from home" of the UPLB constituents. The OCG also embodies its principle and tagline that OCG cares.

HOPE and CARES

HOPE (Health Orientation on Problems from Emotional Stress) is a university-wide forum on mental health concerns that promote awareness and provide intervention to combat this issue.
CARES, on the other hand, is a program created to continuously provide and respond to the psychosocial needs of students and UPLB constituents during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Leadership Training Seminar (LTS)

The Leadership Training Seminar (LTS) for Gabay Volunteers is the Study 3 under the Program Group Growth and Development of the OCG.

Alay Turo

Alay Turo is a peer teaching program instituted to assist students with academic difficulties. The tutors are volunteer-students and scholars from different colleges who are academically qualified to assist their peers on problems in their respective courses.

Psychological Testing and Assessment Services

The OCG utilizes standard tests to gain a better understanding of an individual’s mental ability, aptitude, personality, interest, and vocational preference.



Career Development Service

Career development services aim to assists students in career planning by providing information on job opportunities and employment trends. This involves career consultations and visitations.




OCG PROGRAMS

EXTENSION SERVICES PROGRAM

The extension services program includes various training activities, seminars/workshops, and enrichment programs on student personnel work, human resource development, etc. It aims to serve the needs of interested constituents of UPLB and outside agencies through joint community projects.


RESEARCH PROGRAM

The research program aims to provide evidence for the range of issues where guidance and counseling can be effective; to design program and activities appropriate for students/client needs and; to enhance professional knowledge and provide evidence -based practices in ways that benefits the students/clients.
