Mr. Julian Greening started full-time teaching in 2017 at a beautiful island called Saipan (near Guam) and has been the director of bands at The Studios@Central and Ishi Hills Middle School in Oroville, CA since 2022. He teaches beginning bands and intermediate bands at both schools.
Originally from Japan, he graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, USA where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with emphasis in Tuba. While in college, Mr. Greening was involved in numerous ensembles such as the Wind Ensemble, Tuba-Euphonium Quartet, and Brass Quintet. In 2009, Mr. Greening participated in the National Collegiate Wind Ensemble and performed at Carnegie Hall.
After graduating college in 2009, he returned to Japan and taught brass instruments and bands in Shizuoka, Yamanashi, and Gifu prefecture until 2017. In 2014, Mr. Greening participated in Tumon Bay Music Festival in Guam as a guest artist and he returned the next year and served as a translator for guest artists from Japan. In 2018, he returned to Tumon Bay Music Festival with the Mount Carmel School Band, and brought some students to the festival.
In 2021, he received a "Citation of Excellence" from National Band Association and in 2022, he was one of the finalists for the teacher of the year.
While being a band director at The Studios@Central and Ishi Hills Middle School, he also teaches after-school band at Bangor Union Elementary School, teaches brass instruments privately at Butte College and enjoys playing tuba with Chico Brass Quintet, Oroville Community Concert Band, and Paradise Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Greening is an alumni member of Kappa Kappa Psi, Honorary Band Fraternity.
