Various Acoustic profiler equipments are being used by the surveying companies for various things. For example: Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler is used for detection of current flow. Before starting of survey, it‘s mandatory to measure the flow of currents traced out under sea water, so that there will be no chance of destruction under sea water.
Sometimes, a huge current source can be obtained through offshore survey and the electricity supply can be increased. In this way, the current flow in any area under sea water will be traced out through different current profiler devices.
An efficient current meter records the speed of current flow in order to provide report on the suitability of the area for survey work. These current meters are connected through cable and can be operated at the depth level under sea water. Unlike, residential and commercial current meter, this current meter is installed at DP vessel and the node or device for current measurement is placed under water to detect the traced current flow.
In order to keep the oceanographic equipments safe and secured from short circuit attacks, it’s mandatory to use Acoustic current profiler for precaution purpose. The device as well as entire survey unit will be saved from current attacks.
Another way of current measurement is using Gallon bottle of dye to record the volume or speed of the current flow under sea water. The current flow over broad area could be measured through this procedure by surface drogue float and bottom drogue method. But, chance of water pollution and death of water animals is truly possible through this drogue addition method.
Due to pollution chances, several costly buoys are being installed to throw signals to the satellites for recording of current frequency everyday, which helps marine engineers a lot in understanding the real current flow in different offshore areas.
Drift Bottle is another to measure the traced current through releasing of few drifts and might be disturbed by the wind. But, it’s a faster and easier method to measure current under sea water and water pollution could be created. That’s why; weighted Drift Cards are used to measure currents and just stay below the water level.
The CTD winch are very much popular oceanographic equipments to control and hold huge range of thick fiber optic cables (.322) with length of 3,000 to 7,000 meters safely. It has accurate angle fairlead for momentary angle requirement, Dynamic haul compensation, Electric changeable Frequency Drive and Low power supply requirement, etc. This winch is used for deep water survey with fully control on devices and no chance of any wrong measurement or any disturbance of connection will be occurred.
Hope, the marine engineer will be able to rent suitable winches like CTD, Umbilical, Magnetometer, sonar winch and many more winches along with current profiler devices. The entire survey unit will be destroyed, if the current profiler won’t be used.
