Playing Room and Analysis/Waiting Area

The playing room will be the Limes Room. The analysis/waiting area will be the Victoria Room. Depending on other bookings at the venue, some areas within the foyer may also be available.

Both are subject to playing numbers.

Note the following tournament and venue requirements:

• Follow all reasonable instructions and requests from venue staff, organisers and arbiters

• No smoking or vaping inside or on the property

• Minimise rubbish

• No running or yelling

• No moving furniture, tampering with displays or equipment

• Children must always be supervised when not in the playing room

• Only players in games, arbiters, the organising committee and VIPs are permitted in the playing room. Others should avoid waiting around the playing room while games are being played.

• All finished players and accompanying persons are welcome to use the Victoria Room for analysis or waiting for players

• However, no transfer chess/bughouse

• Players, their family, spectators, VIPs etc. entering the Town Hall, particularly the Limes or Victoria Rooms while the rounds are ongoing, consent to photos and videos being taken and used for publicity purposes.

• Any damage or mess to the rooms will result in being asked to leave and any associated costs being billed to you. Severe cases of damage may result in withdrawal of participants under your care from the tournament and criminal proceedings

Parking

There is no free parking in the immediate area but there are paid car parks directly opposite on Kilmore Street. https://ccc.govt.nz/transport/getting-around/parking/carpark has a map of available options (zoom into the area around 86 Kilmore Street). Note that Kilmore Street is one-way going West so drivers and cyclists should bear that in mind when planning their journeys.

Public Transport

The bus stop outside the venue is #54520 and is serviced by the 1, 29 and 95 routes. If staying outside the CBD and using buses, easiest is to transfer at the bus interchange to whichever route is going next (they all go through the interchange - alternatively, walking is about 15-20 mins). Fares are $3 and can be paid by any contactless card (paywave) or a prepaid Metro card. https://www.metroinfo.co.nz/ has more information on buses, routes, timetables and fares/payment/ages etc.

The 29 route goes to the airport so is an option if departing Christchurch on the final day. 1 and 95 both go along Papanui Road – there are quite a few hotels and motels along Papanui Road, so would be a good option for travellers (numbers under 100 are closer to the CBD if wanting something in walking distance just in case).

If staying on Papanui Road, the 1 and 95 routes into town do not travel along Kilmore Street as it is one-way - instead get off at any of stops 52887 or 53192 on Salisbury Street, or stop 14318 on Manchester Street and walk the rest of the way (about 1.5 blocks/5 mins walk for all of them). For those travelling into the interchange after a round, those are also the nearest stops if not walking to the interchange.

Accommodation

It is important to book quickly as it is school holidays. As the event is in the central city at one of Christchurch's premier venues, and also close to Te Pae (Christchurch Convention Centre), there is a lot of accommodation within walking distance.

The official hotel is Carnmore Hotel Christchurch at 840-848 Colombo Street, Christchurch. Book directly on the hotel website to get special rates for a King, accessible King, or Twin Studio. The link includes the promo code, but the code is OCZNZ27 if needed. This is 400m or about 5-10 minutes walk to the venue, has an on-site restaurant and is 10 minutes walk to Riverside Market and the Terrace.

There are two apartment hotels directly opposite the venue: The Quest on Kilmore and Fino Hotel and Suites. There are also two motels on Colombo Street opposite the Carnmore Hotel Christchurch: Colombo in the City  and Centre Point on Colombo.
