The reference obsidian samples presented on this website are grouped based on quantitative analyses obtained using wavelength-dispersive and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF and EDXRF) spectrometry. Provenance analysis of obsidian is conducted using these reference samples, and the results are expressed in terms of chemical group names. The geographic distribution of each group can be viewed on this website.
