Adam Oberstein, PhD

Adam earned his B.A. at New York University and PhD at Princeton University. He studied Drosophila genetics with Stephen Small at NYU, structural biology with Yigong Shi as a graduate student, and molecular virology with Tom Shenk as a post-doc. Adam was a Kirschstein NRSA-fellow and member of the Princeton Host-Pathogens project during his tenure at Princeton.
Mariana Andrade Medina

Mariana earned her B.S. at University of Guadalajara and PhD at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV) in Monterrey, Mexico. Mariana joined the Oberstein lab in 2022 and is engineering a new system for detection of cells latently infected with DNA viruses.
Preethi Golconda

Preethi earned her B.S. and M.S. at George Washington University in Washington, DC before entering the GEMS graduate program at UIC in 2018. She joined the Oberstein lab in 2019 and is studying the effect of epithelial and mesenchymal gene-expression programs on HCMV infection.

Ben Imlay
Master's Student, Bioinformatics, UIC 2018 - 2019
Ben joined the Oberstein lab in late 2018 and worked on computational prediction of host-factors and coded the "Reannotator" and the "SRA-metadata collector" - software tools for reorganization of next-generation sequencing metadata. Ben earned his M.S. in Bioinformatics from UIC in December of 2019.
Aaron Hong

Aaron earned his B.S. at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan in 2017 and worked as a Research Assistant for one year before entering the GEMS graduate program at UIC. Aaron joined the Oberstein lab in 2019 and is working to identify new cellular factors enabling Zika virus replication.
