TIPS for IN CAMP

PACK A DAY PACK

It is a trek to go from one end of camp to the other - it’s a pain to go back when you have forgotten sunscreen!

Leader Day Pack:

  • Watch
  • Sunscreen & Bug Spray
  • Water
  • Schedule
  • First aid kit
  • camera/phone
  • Notebook to capture notes, good ideas and feedback for camp leaders.

Take LOTS of photos.

The Stake Leaders will send out a link to a Google Album. Be sure to add names/years so we can use for slideshow.

HYDRATE!

Make sure your girls drink plenty of water. They often forget and get grumpy, headaches and dehydrated. Turn this into a game, find fun ways to keep tabs on each other.

KEEP TRACK OF EACH OTHER

Keeping the girls together and on schedule can be tough. Find ways as leaders to keep track of the girls and check in with each other. The walkie talkies are a great tool for this.

MEALTIMES

Mealtimes are full of tradition at Rucker Lake. Each meal starts with a dinner bell. The girls gather at the tables arranged by year. The 6th years lead the group in songs while waiting for dinner to be ready. They then dismiss the tables by year. Meals in the backcountry are arranged for the group. See the Backcountry Guidelines page for more info.

RADIOS

The stake provides 2 radios for each of the years to use during the week of camp. This can be a super useful tool to find each other, grab forgotten items or help with searching for girls that can't seem to be where they are supposed to be. We will review best practices at camp.

PRINTED SCHEDULES

The stake provides a small version of the schedule attached to a lanyard. For those with trouble reading small print, you might consider printing the schedule before you arrive. :)

At camp, the girls are arranged by their years. Cabins are assigned based on the size of the year and location needs.
