Open and Affordable Course Materials Award

Faculty Learning Community Modules

Welcome! This set of resource modules is intended to ensure all faculty and instructors accepting the OA@ETSU Award have a working knowledge of the trends and tools you will need to successfully integrate Open or Affordable course materials into your course, and be able to share this information with students and colleagues.

When you complete these modules you will be able to:

  • Define and distinguish between Open Educational Resources (OER) and Affordable materials.

  • Identify and apply Creative Commons licenses.

  • Know where to find Open and Affordable course materials.

  • Make all your course materials comply with current accessibility standards.

  • Assess the impact of your OA integration.

  • Use OA as an impetus to enhance your pedagogy.

The modules are self-paced and will take from 10 to 15 minutes each. Most will have a reflection question we hope will bear on your course integration and spark some interesting discussion amongst our community.

The modules will also link out to a Teams site discussion board where OA Awardees may share their insights, experiences, and questions with each other.

About the Open and Affordable Course Materials Program

The cost of textbooks has become a significant barrier to student success and learning. The goal of the ETSU Open and Affordable Awards Program is to encourage instructor experimentation and innovation in finding new, better, and less costly ways to deliver learning materials to their students through Open and Affordable course materials in ETSU classrooms. Awards are available for instructors and programs who plan on using, customizing, or creating open or affordable materials in their courses. See the webpage for more information and application details.

The award is co-funded by the Student Library Fee (as decided by the Charles C. Sherrod Library's Student Advisory Council) and the Center for Teaching Excellence. The awards are co-managed by Sherrod Library and the Center for Teaching Excellence.
