How it works

Rules

The rules of the game are contained on www.sharetrader.co.nz. There are no prizes, simply honour and glory!

1) Participants have picked FIVE different NZX-listed equity instruments (incl. Smartshares and foreign companies listed in NZ). Companies/Funds with a market cap of less than $10m were not able to be selected.

2) Each pick has an equal weighting.

3) Each participant has selected an alias (that does not misrepresent themselves as another alias in use on Sharetrader or Fat Portfolio).

4) Participants are required to select a SIXTH share (which could be 'Cash'), which will be used in the event that a security de-lists from the NZX. This does not cover companies that pass into liquidation.

Returns Calculations

1) Each will start with a notional portfolio of $10,000

2) Returns are calculated from the last closing price of 2019 (Dec 31st 2019) to the last closing price of 2020.

3) Its a 'total return' comp, so Dividends will be included - but NOT benefits from imputation credits or other tax-specific benefits.

4) Rights issues are included according to a calculation that does not increase capital, but recognises a capital gain/loss on the rights for the year.

5) If a selection delists or otherwise somehow dissolves; the proceeds from the realised situation will be re-invested in the selected SIXTH share. For a liquidation or failure, the proceeds are assumed to be zero.

6) The winner is the person who has the largest %age increase. Results will be published regularly on this website.
