All Institute students, under the age of 36, are able to complete previous courses they started by completing make-up work. So, if they have outstanding work to achieve in any of these areas...
75% for Attendance,
75% of the Readings,
An Assessment
...they may complete these in their own time. They will probably need guidance from the current Institute teacher or Stake Supervisor. Students are able to see their progress on myInstitute.churchofjesuschrist.org, though they may need help with specifics, e.g. how many lessons are needed to complete the course.
Once make-up work has been completed for the current course - you can add this on WISE by using the "Made-up Absence" option in Attendance.
Once make-up work has been completed for a previous course - please advise your Administrative Assistant. Let them know what work has been made-up. They will then change the student's information on WISE, print any necessary certificates, and update their reports to stake leaders.
Below are instructions on how to make up Attendance, Readings, and Assessments.
Below is a example of what a student transcript looks like on WISE when they have attendance below 75% for the CURRENT TERM:
In the example above:
The student has attended 6 out of 13 classes
Thus, their attendance is 47%
"4 DTMU" (4 Days To Make Up) means they need to complete 4 make-up lessons to reach 75%
"DMU" means Days Made Up. Once their make-up lessons are recorded on WISE, this number will increase and the DTMU number will decrease.
Make-up lessons are assignments the students do at home if they would like to raise their attendance to at least 75% for Course Credit.
Some guidelines regarding make-up lessons:
When make-up lessons are required, they should be given to bless and not punish the student.
Make-up work is determined by the teacher and should be related to the work missed, be meaningful and realistic, and require effort similar to those who attended the class. Students are encouraged to complete courses as an act of discipleship and deepen their learning.
Teachers decide if the make-up work students complete is acceptable.
Teachers can use the Class Preparation Manuals for guidance:
Institute Manuals (click to go to the website). Or,
There is a general sheet below you can use. We have made it a Word Document so that it can be emailed and completed on a device.
MAKE-UP READINGS
Students have to finish the Readings for the course to gain Course Credit. They are able to do this after the course has finished. They let the teacher know when they are done so their Transcripts can be changed on WISE.
Readings for the Cornerstone courses are found in each of the Class Preparation Material lessons.
ALL student Readings can be found on the Church's website on this link: Institute Student Readings
MAKE-UP ASSESSMENTS
Students are able to finish these in their own time once the course has finished. Remember, there are 3 ways to do Assessments, also known as Elevated Learning experiences.
If they were completing Assessment through:
The Questions: Click here to go to the files you will need.
A Study Journal, they do so for any make-up work lessons they still need to do. They let you know when it is finished. They do not show you the journal.
A Personal Learning Project: Click here for more on this option.
