City of Fury

Gears of Fury is a robotics curriculum created especially for the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) Division of Family and Community Empowerment (FACE) in collaboration with Makeosity, Inc. and RoboFun. It was introduced by FACE to NYCDOE schools through FaceLab, a program designed to train parents to support STEM education through the introduction of robotics in classrooms. Gears of Fury also introduces teachers, parents and students to Systems Thinking. Understanding Systems Thinking makes it easier to develop long term solutions for communities' deeply pressing challenges through the investigation of the interconnections, inter-dependencies and interrelations of the components and elements of the systems all around us that shape our ways of living. Systems Thinking helps students become better at gauging situations, predicting outcomes, and in general engaging more proactively in the world around them. Gears of Fury has been piloted, perfected and has grown with parents, teachers and students in classrooms throughout New York City. In addition, through the NYSED Learning Technology Grant, teachers familiar with Gears of Fury developed a new curriculum for testing in the 2019-2020 school year. We call it City of Fury and it is modeled after First LEGO League (FLL) challenges. Pictured above is Saint Theresa School's 2019-2020 FLL robotics team that crushed competition with its engineering and programming skills. The school's science teacher coached the team and contributed to the development of the City of Fury curriculum along with teachers from NYC CSD 8 who also coached FLL teams.
